This is one of the nicest guitars we've ever had in the shop!

This is 80's Gibson at it's finest! For a quick history lesson:

"The Studio Standard was produced from 1983–1987 and was very similar to the Studio Custom, including the "dot" inlays, but had a single-ply binding around the body and neck, chrome hardware, and white pickup rings and pick guard. It was also available in different colors, such as Cherry Sunburst, Tobacco Burst and Ferrari Red. One piece mahogany back, three piece maple or alder top, maple neck, ebony or rosewood fretboard rounded out the complements. This was the Tim Shaw era of pickups." -Gibson Wiki

Our example is in Tobacco Sunburst with what we think is an ebony board. Couldn't find an 86' catalog. It's rather dark for rosewood. Another thing to note is that this guitar is much thinner than your typical standard. This guitar comes with Tim Shaw "Patent Applied For" pickups, as pictured. They sound fantastic. Each pickup position has a unique voice, extremely musical and useable. There is a stamp inside of the neck pickup cavity that reads LS4, or maybe USA. There is also a signature, likely of the QC inspector. "Polieita", I think. The pots date to March of 1986.

It weighs 9LBS 4oz. Very comfortable!

The guitar is in good shape for it's age. This guitar is players grade. There plenty of small nicks, dings, and rashes, all photographed. The neck finish has been sanded down. There is plenty of buckle rash on the back of the guitar and the control plate. There is a thin finish crack near the neck heel on the treble side. The binding has splintered under the finish at the tips of the frets. This is only cosmetic. The finish on the back has begun to crack in some places, only on the edges. It has seen its fair share.

This axe is about to turn 40. The original owner took good care of it, but some parts had begun to fail. The tuners lost their tension on the higher strings and began to sieze on the lower. They have since been replaced with comparable Kluson model tuners. The tailpiece has been replaced with a Faber one. We think the bridge itself is original- it was unlabled, and the Faber one is in the case with the rest of the parts. There is another unlabeled tailpiece in the case. We left it as is because it plays well. The bridge posts have been replaced, originals also in the case. This guitar comes with a very desirable, blue-lined Chainsaw case 'Generation 3'. The Gibson logo plate has fallen off.

Our in-house tech just set it up with 10's and low action. This guitar shipped with low frets (see 'fretless wonder'). If you're looking to maximize the playability, this guitar could use a refret. It plays very well for the state of the frets. There are some deep divots that we have set up around. We have factored this into the price of the guitar.

Please message with any questions. We hope you love this guitar as much as we do! Thanks for your interest.
